ARTIST STATEMENT

‘the faculty of wonder, like curiosity, can make things     happen, it is time for wishful thinking to have its due’                                                       Marina Warner

The aim of my work is to access an intimate space located somewhere between the personal and the worldly.

To this investigation, I use as my starting point a large and ever changing collection of magical (to me) objects, such as old illustrated childrens books , whimsy including ceramic animals and dolls and popular and folk images. These inevitably get lost in the process of making something other from them, but prove as useful for reaching someplace else.

My work is full of an apparently personal symbolism and is rooted in a desire to communicate an increasingly fading space. The use of an intimate scale is a deliberate strategy.
